Waihi Miners' Union Sports.

The annual public meeting in connection with the Miners’ Union Sports was held in Tanner’s Hall on Saturday night last, Mr J. J. Poland presiding The retiring secretary, Mr P, F. Heunessey, presented the annual report, which was read and adopted. It showed that on each Miners’ Union Day of the last two years, very successful sports had been held, and that, in spite of extra expense iu fixing the course last year, and in the erection of a grandstand for ladies, with the additional drawback of a wet day, the meeting left a credit balance of £ll 12s Id in the hands of the treasurer, Mr W. L. Hunter; On the motion of Mr Jas. Hatton it was resolved to again hold a Sports meeting on Miners Union day, March 7th. Officers were elected as follows: —President, Dr .Wright; Viee-Pre sident, Dr Porter, Messrs W. L. Hunter, D. McLean and R. S. Ready ; Judge, Mr R. Newdick ; Starter, Mr J. W. Wrigley ; Clerk of Course, Mr A. Trenwith; Clerk of Scales, Mr 0. W. Bull; Treasurer, Mr W L. Hunter; Stewards, Messrs D. Smeaton, McCon nochie, Lang, Hatton, Hennessey ; Secretary, Mr J, Poland. The election of handicappers was left in the hands of the committee. It was decided that the hack events be open to horses which have never won a race value £lO or over. The arrangement of the programme was left to the committee. Messrs Hunter and A* Simpson were appointed to have the course put in order, It was arranged to hold the first committee meeting on Saturday evening next, at 8 o’clock.
