The Wnthi Consolidated Company ore losing n > time in opening up the lower level on the new reef recently exploited, and the tender of Hayes and party has teen accepted for sinking the shaft a further distance of 100 ft, alter which a crosscut will be started to intersectrthe lode. With regard to the new development, driving north on the lode is in progress, and the reef maintains a promising ance, about 4 feet of very good' Ore being carried on the hangingwall Side. This is an entirely new lode, and its importance to Waihi is great, as it clearly demonstrates the existence, of aoriferoifs' cbuntty to the eastward of the SiHertqn reef System. This new lode ii’running north and sooth, and will traverse both the Silverton and Gladstone grounds. One pleasing and important feature in connection with this development is that the lode is gold-bearing, samples tested, both | in Auckland and WaihL giving pretty J uniform results, the value per tonj averaging about £3. I GEAND JUNCTION. :' | Pumping operations are being earned on at $e Grand Junction mine, Waihi, without intermission, and the water has been reduced sufficiently at the Waihi West to allow enlargement of - the shaft to be proceeded with. At Eanowna it was reported that a splendid find of gold had befen made six miles away, near the Nil Desperandum leaves, and a crowd of unlucky miners from the Fitzroy lead went out, but found that the report was unfounded. Some time ago a few hundred ounces were found in the locality. The Eanowna north lead is developing splendidly. Four additional claims were bottomed, with splendid results. Morris’s claim, which is the first claim next to the original prospectors, while preparing a parcel for the battery, obtained 200oz gold by dollying and cradling. The parcel, which amounted to 60 tons, has been put through Dyer’s battery for 3550z gold. Nearly every claim on the main lead is busy bagging, Lockton and party are sending 100 tons to Bayswater, bat others are content with the local batteries* treatment.' M’Gettigin and party’s claim on the north lead obtained 330z gold from one dish of wash on Saturday last.
