Startling Occurrence.
Auckland,- December 19. New f r ora Hamilton states' that on Weduesda; night a', "To Kuiti, a man named Kenneth Barns, a newcomer in the district, was assaulted and robbt-d wbita in bed. He was stabbed in the bock with a pocket knife. Hewas admitted into the Waikatb Hospital. On receiving informa'ion at Otorohanga ConstableStnnger at once left for Te-Kiiiti and , ar fsfed two Germans I Additional particulars show that Barns was staying at Bennett's boarding-hooBC. and a half-caste boy was sleeping in thtf same room. As seon as the row com» meoced the boy disappeared. Barns was thm stabbed, and nothing wbs known of the affair till the foi'owing mornin'e, when he was found. Barns was stabbed in the right side, and Dr. Kenny thinks either lungs or liver is punctured. .The men is in a r-ritica] condition.
