Christmas Vacation.
TARARU SCHOOL, , The annual picnic and breaking up, held in Mr John Wilson's paddock yesterday, was in every way :a great wcoess. The catering* was done by Mr Scoot, and was excellent, the details on the, ground being attended to '<■ by. an energetic committee of ladies, under the. direction of Mrs Darrow. During the""" afternoon the majority of , the committee men were in attendance, and worked hard to ensure the enjoyment of the children. ■; After tea all' adjourned to the Sunday School adjacent, where Mr S. Dabb, Secretary of the Coramitte, took the Chair, in the absence of-Mr W. N. Cli ra °- who* is, we regret to say, still in the Hospital ." After Mr Dabb had prenented the prizes, Mr Newton briefly •:■.■ addressed the scholars and parents, and dwelt on the evils of irregular attendance, and of the growing tendency to allow children to wander the streets ' : at night. Before dispersing hearty cheers',were given for the Committee, ladies, teachers, and all to whom the success and enjoyment of the duy were due, not, forgotting Mr Wilson, in whose ground the picnic was held, The following is the prize list \— Ito-cußs Attendance Certificates a*» Phizes (uvea by the Hbadjosteb.—Standard VII., Henry Brown and Eeginald Darrow; VI, Lottie James, David Thorburn, and Darrow j V, Leslie Andrew, Edmund Margaret Clark, Linda Cox, Beatrice James, Lilian McWatters, Olive • Thorburn, and Walter Thompson; IV, G.
