Borough Council.

The usual fortnightly meeting of ■ the above body was held last evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor, Crs Comer, Burch, Whitehead, Scott, Foy, and Davey, Apologies were received for the absence of Crs Poulgrain, Stewart and Wood. i Fire Brigade Uniforms. — The Secretary of the Fire Brigade wrote recommending that the tender of Mr p. H. Claxton be accepted for uni-forms.-^-Resolved that the tender be accepted. Goldfields' Revenue.—A memo was received from Warden's Office stating that £19 9s sd, being goldfields' revenue, had been placed to credit of the Council's banting account.—Received. Road Deviation.—Mr T. A, Dunlop, manager of the Thamcs-Hauraki, wrote making application to deviate the Reserve road near tho Queen of Beauty shaft for a short distance. The shaft, as shown by a plan at- : tached, is not in a direct line or square with the road, and Mr Dunlop pointed out that as it was necessary the machinery should bo erected squarely with the shaft that could not be accomplished without utilising some 8 or 10 feet of the present roadway in the

widest part. The Company, Mr Dunlop said, is prepared to bear the expense of the deviation.—Referred to General Purposes Committee with power to act. Burgess Roli.,—Mr G.' Denby ap-

plied to have his name placed ou the burgess roll for property at corner of Sealey and Mackay streets, he having purchased the property from Mr Jno. Scott.—Request granted subject to usual provisions. Request Chanted.—The County

Hospital PatiiS.—The Secretary of

the Hospital asked for the services

of one of the Borough workmen for tarring and sanding the paths at the Hospital.—Request granted. Dray Crossing,—Messrs A. and G. Price made an application to construct a dray crossing from their boiler shop now in course of construction.—

Meat and Milk Inspection.—Mr E. "\V. Hollis, Secretary of the Meat and Milk Committee, wrote informing tho Council that Mr S. Durham, of Hawera, had been appointed to the office of Inspector of slaughterhouses and dairies, and requesting that two members of the Council be appointed to act with two members to be selected from the County Council as a Committee to deal with all matters pertaining to duties of Inspectorship. Mr Hollis submitted a report of the Committee's proceedings.—Resolved that Messrs Foy and Burch act as suggested and that the necessary steps be taken to contirm Mr Durham's appointment.

Borough Chambers.—Mr W, H. Newton applied for permission to use tho Borough Chambers for a meeting of tho Fisher Relief (Jomraittee on Saturday evening.—Granted. Dust Removal Contract.—Mr 0. Short wrote in connection with his contract for removal of the dust that he be made a further allowance of 7s 6d for an extra dray. Ho pointed out that the work was much greater than when the work was entered upon.— Referred to General Purposes Committee.

Kirkwood Street Footpath. — Messrs E. J, James and other residents of Kirkwood Street asked that a footpath be mado in front of their residences.—Resolved that the request be granted under conditions as per bylaw.

Water Tahles.—Only one tender being received for water table work (labor only) it was resolved that it be declined, and the Inspector of Works be instructed to carry out the work.
