The bin reef whioh is sho-vin: on the nurface should be to hand 111 about 80 feet of driving from, tho face. No. 3 reof in incased in aflueohannel of country. CITYOFATJOKL\ND, In the eastern drive we have cut tho Raglan reef in a very favourable olass of oountry for gold. Thoroef measures 4ffcwide, but so far I havo scon no gold in it. I am opening up a reef in tho western side of the Itiglan spur from which I expect gcol results FRKKDOM. Stil driving towards the boundary. Am in 185 feet. 80 far thoro are threo lenders in hand, well defined, besides tho argereef. I have crushed a small quantity this week with pcstlo and morar, and got a few colors of gold in the dish, CONSERVATIVE, Low level: The reef continuos a strong defined body of 0 e, whilst the same fav ourable 0 ass of mineral continues to bo seen. The country .surrounding the lode is of a good descriolion, und there is ovory indu-ation of still further improve* ment. Top level: This work has shown a_ little improvement, the leid ieing now nine inches m thiokness, composed of a kindly o'ass.of quartz for oirrying gold.

ASTEROID The drive: The country is of a soft white whito sandstone, 'and (hero is a little water coming out of the face of the drire. WAIHI CONSOLS. Wost crosscut: The ground is a little easier' for working, and shows little patches of quartz hero and there, but no reof formatioos. Although there- ib ovory appearance of a reef not boing far ahead, as it is good reefing country wo are pissing through. ORESCENT (Karangahake). Orient seotir.n : I ho reef in this section is of a more rubbly nature, woll mineralised, and fully two feet wide. Orescent section : The crosscut for W is making good headway, the country boing easy. MARINER (Karangaiiaks). No. 3 lovol: The country continues the same first class, boing interlaced with quartz stringers. A small leader was mot nith on Tuesday, and it is following tho course of the drive, butl get no told in it yet. No, 4 luvol: I have picked up the reef in the Aileen section, which was intersected by tho manager last year in tho No. 1 level, Victoria; The manager reports:—"The sinking of tho winze from No. 2 level has been continued as usual during the week. The leader still maintains a fair average sizs, and at each breaking down shows a

little gold. A_ splendid channel of country is onoasiog the reef, and this leads roe to expect that this block will be a highly remunerative ono, The slopes over No, 2 level are proceeding withont chan.e. I though tho leader is small, gold is seen rather freely through it, and a few pound* of stone are occasionally selected from the quartz. Above the western drive, No. 1 level, the leader la'ely operated on is dot stoped out, but there remains a portion of the reef in tho footwall which I intend to work. This portion was left on account of it leaving the main reef very flat. Gold has been seen in it, and I have no doubt bub tbab it will prove to be payable. Over the ea»tern drive at) this level the various stopes are prooeedwz without any material cbauge. Gold is seen froely distributed through the quaitz, and a little pioked stone is saved frequently. A stope has been (•tar tod over the intermediate level abovo No. 1.

The reef is about eighteen niches in thickness, and sbo<vs a lilt o gold when breaking down. A further disiauoo of 103 feet was clearod out during the week at No. 4 lorol, making a total distance of 210 feet from tho shaft, Thero

still remainß r> distance of 20 feet to repair, bnfc I hope to be able to start the crosscut by the end of the week, Crushing is proceeding at tho battery, and will probably be finished on Wednesday morning.- John A. Aqnew."
