County Council.
ANNUAL~IIEETING, The annual meeting of the Thames '. County Council was held in the County - Chambers at 12 noon, the newly* elected members taking their seat for the first time. There were present Crs Dunlop, Corbett, McEnieer, .. Deebb, Walton, Steedman, Teddy. • and Ross. 1 The County Clerk (Mr E. W. • Ilollis) occupied the Chair. CY Corbett sjioke in most flattering ; terms of the ability which th» Chairman; had displayed during his term of j olfi.ee, and said that notwithstanding i the many important functions whichhad devolved upon liim during the past year, it was hoped that Cr Dunlop would consent to be re-elected. ' U" was more particularly urged to ' nominate Cr Dunlop as Chairman from the fact of that gentleman being . desirous to continue his efforts {for the construction of the now water race. Cr Dunlop's intimate acquaintance with the requirements of the goldfields, and tho advantages the Council. would reap by his advocacy and in- - fluence with the Government during his periodical visits to Wellington, eminently fitted him for the position - which he was now requested to accept. . Cr McEnteer seconded, and on the
Olerk putting tho motion to the meetiug, it was unanimously carried. Or Dunlop, on assuming the chair, replied in suitable terms to the encomiums passed on him by Or G'orbett, and welcomed that now members of tho Council, trusting that all would work together for the common welfare, ,5f
