SATURDAY'S MATCHES,

A considerable fimount of interest was taken in Saturday's matches, because upon their result depended tho necessity or otherwise of playing another round, The four teams engaged were from tho Tarant and United Clubs; neither of tho sonior teams mustered their full strength. From Tararu, Moresby, unexpectedly called away to Paoroa, and Gaudin, who was suffering from a severe cold, were unfortunately absent, while Gibbons, Siddall, Lawson and Dufty were wanting from the United team, which included S. McGregor for the first time. Tararu won the toss and took tho field, Kelly, who was one of tho first batsman, was responsible for more than half the total made by I United. His score of 20 included two threes and four twos, and his innings was only marred by one chance, Taylor made 7, but the other batsmen failed almost completely and United, declining to draw upon their juniors, closed their innings with 8 wickets down for 39 runs. To Tararu's total of 49, Clark 14 and Carter 12 were the chief contributors, and Wiggins made 8, For the losers the bowling and fielding of Bennett deserve special mention, for he had a hand in the disposal of no less than eight of the opposing team, the other two of whom were " run out." tararu's win gives them tho Championship .for 1895-6.
