THE OCCUPATION OF EGYPT,
London, .February 27. The Foreign Oflice denies the statement that Lord Salisbury had replied to the Sultan respecting the new arrangement for the occupation of Egypt and adds he was unaware the Sultan had appointed a commission to formulate a scheme.
DEFENCE OF THE EMPIRE.
London, February 27. Mr Goscheu, Chancellor of the Exchequer, speaking at Lewes, said he was delighted to sec the strong hold Great Britain possessed of the hearts of colonists. Relations at present existing with Germany were excellent and ho said it was a dangerous fallacy for foreign statesmen to believe Great Britain would never fight for outlying interests. International log-rolling he asserted had caused British isolation, which he thought was easily terminable.
