CRICKET.

(Press Association.)

London February 27,

The Prince of Wales will attend the cricket match between Lord .Sheffield's team, and the Australian eleven,

SOUTH AUSTRALIA V. NEW SOUTH "WALES.

Svdxhv, February 28. The iiiatcli between South Australia and New South Wales was distinguished by thelongpartnership between barling and Hill, both of whom hit with great brilliancy, and completely collared the local bowling. The former made 121 and the latter is still in for IGG. The South Australians have six wickets down for 320.

[Notes by Tbundleb.l

As anticipated in last week's notss the home team won the match, Auckland v. Wellington, but they only did so in the nick of time sacrificing six wickets to make the GO runs required in the time remaining to them—sixty minutes.

I notice that no less than four out of the twenty senior .wickets lost last week here were " run out." Surely this shows bad judgment on the part of the runners. It is bad policy to throw away a wicket over a risky run. The great faults of our batsmen are hesitancy and a want of mutual confidence. If players would study each other, the fast man accommodating himself to his slower mate, and if, when they really start for a run, each would "go r ' all he knows we should have less heartburning and recrimination than we have now.

North Shore are already anticipating a'pleasant trip here on the 21st of March. I hear that Wynyard and Hume are certain to come, but I am afraid we shall not see Mills, as the day is reserved for the North Shore Amateur Athletic meeting on the «round of which " George" has charge. During the week when Kelly was in Auckland and met Kaliender, the latter kindly offered to arrange matches for a Thames team to be played in Auckland at Easter. I would suggest that our Association make a special effort to avail themselves of the offer, and to let our boys have some good cricket on a decent wicket,

The following will represent Tariiru seniors in their match to-day with United -.—Wiggins (captain), Clark, Cantley, McGregor, Carter, Gaudin, Newton, .Drown, Kendall, lleilly, and Moresby. ■
