FIRE ON THE STEAMER ORIENT.
_ • ; — (Per Press Association.) • Meijiouunk, Aui'tist lu. A fire broke out on board the steamer Orient in the bunker where tea was chiefly stored. The compartment was watertight and the fire was confined there.' Owing to the water poured io the steamer bad a dangerous list, and had to bo hauled on an even koel before the opera'ions of extinguishing could be proceeded with. Lateh. The fire on the steamer Orient is assuming a serious aspect. The bunker, whore the outbreak occurred, is leaking, and is unable to hold sufficient water to quench tbo fire. It is feared the walls of the bunker will crack and will let the tire spread beyond control.
