THE CHINESE ATROCITIES.
(Press Association.) London. August 10. It has been officially announced that stringent orders have been issued by the Chinese Government to prevent further outrages and 3500 soldiers have been despatched to protect the missionaries in Kucheng and punish the murderers. Eeportsfrom Washington state that Rear-Admirai C. C. Carpenter, of the Americanwarship Baltimore, the flagship on the As ! astic station, has ordered the gunboat Petrel with a thousand marines from United States warships stationed on the station waters, with gatling guns, to proceed to Ping Zang to protect the missionaries and European residents in Shanghai. A message from the British people declared Lord Salisbury's demands utterly inadequate and delay dangerous. Tho missionary societies are combining to wait as a deputation on the Premier, demanding that prompt action be taken to prevent a repetition of the massacres in China.
