WRECK OF A STEAMER.
MANY LIVES LOST, (Piiii Pit ess Association.) Sydney, August 8, Tho steamer Catherlhun struck on the Seal rocks at 230 this morning, and saak in fifteen minutes. _ _ A boat containing tho captain, doctor, second mate, two other whito men, and 1C Chinese and crew landed at Forster. The others are supposed to he lost. Later.
The boats which landed..ut iorster contained thirty Chinamen and 16 of the crow and the following nhito men:—Dr CoperoanA W. Langfear (second mate). Mr Crane, andCapt. Fraser (tho pilot). The other boats containing the captain of the steamer and other officers are missinp. . The Calhcrthun left Sydney for China, via way ports, in charge of I aptain Neil Shannon and the following officersW. P. Pinney (mate), Langfear (second mate), Harold Li flier (third mate),R. H. Amloraon (surgeon). Harpc r , Wilson, Adorns, Wolstenbolme (chief, second, third, and fourth engineers), Manning (chief steward), Jackson (quartermaster), three Chinese quartermasters), and a Chinese crew of 44. She carried as passengers.—R. Fraser, Crane, Copeman, Dr. Anderson, Captain Fawkes, MesdamesMattbews andLoring, Miss. ~ oring, and fifteen Chinese. Tugs have been sent from Newcastle to the scene of the wreck.
