SINGULAR ACCIDENT.
CAUTION TO WIRE STRAINERS.
A snoc.'iNti accident occurred on Friday last to a young man named Richard Forster (stepson of Mr J. Ham, of Wellington) at Makairo, about 3u miles from Eketahuna. He was, fencing on his property, and after having the wire straiued was about to nail it to the post, whonthe j grip of the cogwheel slipped, with] the result that the handle struck hh oye, injuring it so terribly that it will have to be removed, and also broke | the bone underneath it. The pooled low was driven in a trap from 9 ! o'clock on Friday night to (.! next ! morning, with the intention of catching the early train for Wellington, but arrived two minutes late. Ho suffered great pain, as the. was very cold and the roads were in a bad state However he was brought to Wellington by the late traiu on Saturday night, and was taken to tho Hospital, where ho now lies, as well as can be expected.
