In tho course of his work the axe handle, accidentally struck the pocket containing the powder and matches, with the result that one of tho vestas ignited and exploded the powder. Tho roiiscqucnco was that Challis was very sevcrly burned about the lower part of his body and both thighs. Ha was at once conveyed to thr Hospital, whore his injuries were attended to by Dr. Williams, but, we understand, that it will ue some time before he will be able to leave tho institution.

One sad feature of the accidout is that the unfortunate lad's father is also an inmate of the Hospital, suffer-in* from a severe attack of rheumatism.
