THE JURY'S VERDICT. ■ARREST OP-THE .COOK., (by telegraph -press association.) CnBISTOHUROH, February 12, ii (he enquiry into the circumataiices concocted with ihe fire on board''the ship Svereßt, the jury returned a verdict that ihe-veseel waß set on fire by some person unknown, but immediately after Emmanuel Font, the cook, was arrested on a charge of arßon. The evidence showed that on the night of the fire the cook went behind the ank near where the fire bogan, .and remained there several minutes, and soon after the fire brokeout, He made many contradictory statements o the police. A kerosene tin kept by Iho cook was found in the lazarette after the fire, but was not there on the previous day, There were othor minor incriminatory inciden'B.
