Death of Mr David Watson Pitkethley.
The Christmas festivities of a very large ssotion of the Thames people were very much damped by the death of Mr David Watson Pitkethley, which look place at his rosidence, Sealey street, on Christinas Day about 1 o'clock. Tho deceased was born near Glasgow and at the time of his death was forty years and eight months of Jge. He arrived in Auckland on the 23rd December, 18G4, with his parents, and for 1 jouio years worked in (lie foundry of Mi ssrs Fraser and Time, When his father and mother moved (o tho Thames ic accompanied them, and worked for lome years with his father at the blaekiwjlhinK trade. Ho them became amalgauator at the Herald Battery, and aftervards manager of the Alburnia Baltory, his Dattory was subsequently sold to the ''rinco Imperial Company, and is now the iroperty of the Saxon Company. Mr *itkelhley retained the management broughoul, and at the lime of his deceage fas still manager. About five years ago Mr Pitkethley was lected lo the County Council as member or the Kauaeranga Biding, aud as ovi ence that he commanded tho respect and onfidenco of bis fellow councillors he 'as elected chairman of that body only tat month; He was also Chairman of the [oapital Dnd Charitable Aid Board and [capital Committee, < Tho immediate cause of death was inanimation of tho lungs induced by a Bglected cold, hia illness only extended 1 per about a week; , It is not writing too strongly when wo , nto that tlioro was probably no man in c o community who was moro generally c spooled than Iho late Mr Pitkethley: He as of quiet unassuming mannors, up- v jht in all his dealings, and a man of few b ords, but his word was his bond, and e uld bo implicitly relied upon, r Hia funeral will take place at 11 o'clock r ■day, and tlioro will no doubt be a large p ;ondanco of his brethoren of tho Protesit Alliance and Masonic lodges, and of 9 general public. preceded the hearfe, Eight Grand Past Masters of the order acted as Pall Bearers viz, Brothers Robert Scott. R.T. Douglas, David Honderson, W. J. McWatLrs, G B. Taylor, John Gribblo, John West, and George Ross, The immediate relations and friendß followed amongst whom were his brother Mr W. Pitkethley, his brother I in-iaw Mr Mennio and Mr Albert Brnco, next followed the County Clerk, Mr Hollis. tho County Engineer Mr Aitken, •snii the members of the County Council of which body the deceased was Chairman Next followed tbo members of tho Masonic Lodio of Light of which tho doceaeed was Doputy Master, thoio was a considerable number of members of the oilier local lodges. The Mayor, Cr, Wood and the. Borough Clerk followed in a carriage us representatives of (ho Borough. Tho Chairman of the Ohinemuri County Council represen'ed that body, Colonel Fraser, the member for tho district, also followed. There wbb also a large concourse of the gc-nrra! public, the following numbered in all about seven hundred. The Rev. J. S, Neill said the usual prayers ami delivered an imprcegive address at the fiiavo.
