MINING INTELLIGENCE

New Moanatairi —The- manager'reports fir the past week section No 4 level. The'drive on the hangiogwall lead has now been advanced 27£t and for the last 10ft, it !• 9 been carried in for a width of fully 8f . in order to keep both branches of the 'oad in hand... The hangingwall:or mist-ralised portion of the lead is lyjog muc). flatter than the main rib of quartz on the ioptwall ; but I think in a short.distance it will get more upright and the two branches come together again. No gold has yet been seen in either of tho main ribs of quartz, bnt a few good strong colors have been 1 mot with in some small voins running tlirough the sandstone which intervenes between the two lead?. The ground is still tight for working, (but appears to be getting better as the drive advances and should the two branches junction, wo should hivo a cbance of meeting with better prospects. Intermediate level.: The formation of quartz which struck oft at right angles from the main reef, ha* beim driven on a distance of ten .feet and and I am not quite certain whotlie.it is going to be a separate lead or not • I will cootiaue the drivo on a litttle further. Point Russel Section : A start will be made on Monday (yosteiday) on the Reuben Parr reef, only one shift will be engaged for a few days, until. the repairs to the main tunoel are completed.' The surface dirt passed through the. battery has been shaping much the same this week.-G S. CLARK." Trenton.—Tbe mine manager reports for the past week as follows: -Tho'westerr: drive has only 'been driven a distance of 10£t. during the past week. Tbe country has been very hard and the piston of the rock borer broke twice, which caused a great deal of dfllay, This drivu is now in a distance of 106 ft. from tho, Cambria crosscut. The bottom level has been driven by the contractors (McDeruiotl) a distance of lift, in 8 working days, There is little or no change in the country here yet. The contractor for sinking the well has completed his contract of Bft.~JAB. Codtts,

New Prince Imperial, - Tbe mine manager reports for the past week as follows :-I mude a start on Wednesday morning to put the ladders' in the air-shaft to enable me lo see which would be the most advantageous way of testing the ground in this oorlion of the mine.' At 90' feet from the surface there is a crosscut in; about 25ft to the small leader.that junctions with tho No 1 reef where the specimens were got, I-have got the railß laid in tbe crosscut and will send the mullock down the air shaft, to No 2 level, I will put rails in to the bottom of the shaft. This I believe will be the easiest and cheapest way of doing the work. The crosscut and drive is only about 15 feet above No 1 level, so I think it is not advisable to start from No.l chamber, as suggested in my last report, as tbe differ-, ence between tbe two* levels would not warrant the expenditure at the present time. The drive was filled up with mullock when the air shaft was sunk',.but I think a week will clean it out. I have not been able to get the quartz put through the battery this week, but will do so nest week,—D. Crawford."
