' (Tothe.Editer.)',.-. '/..^-j Sib,—l witnessed in Pollen Street yesterday afternoon one of the most deliberate and disgraceful Bcenes it haß ever been my * lot to observe at the Thames- The facts i of the case are aB follows:—A cart loaded' 1 with oranges in the'last stage of decom--1 position, the juice of which was running 1 in a stream from the bottom, was delibo- ! rately backed to the kerbiug and the children just leaving school invited to , partake of the Barae, which they did with evident gusto. Thero were some 60 or 70 i of those, and the mess they made on the i pavement with the peel for Bbm'e 20 or ■ 30 feet was a caution. I suppose we have an Inspector of Nuisances but as he cannot observe all that is going on to the dotriment of the health of the people. I have determined to publicly notice the\ same, that Mb attention may bo drawn to ■ the occurrence and that such folly may be prevented in future. Quite a number of citizens, besides mysolf, wituossod the occurrence-and cxpressod thoir opinions in no measured terms. I don't know, sir, whether rotten oranges are considered a good advertisement-by'the storekeeper who allowed them to be so distributed, but this I do know that such rotten stuff must be prejudical to the health of the , poor children who devoured it, and if such gifts aro to be repeated, we know not what amount of sickness we shall have amongst the youngsters presently,-1 am, etc, A Passer. By.
P.S. There !s no necessity to give the name of the storekeeper for there is bat one at the Thames that would be guilty oE such folly.
