I What appears to be a case of great hard, t ship has been brought under our (Auckland i Star's) notice by Mr E, Hi Falknor, of Queen i street, who has for some time been in com, : . munication with some of" the settlors at Herekino, A letterdeceived by Mr Falknor , under date of' June ' 6,' 1889,; from th#. daughter of [a hard workim? man, Who is at ' present laid 'up by au unfortunate accident, is of a peculiarly distressful gliaracter,_ Tho'' writer, after gladly acknowledging receipt of some necessary articles from Mr Faulkner" lays: '«We are really short.of everything, We have not received any .papers since before Christmas, Mr and I weu u out out foraginp for some 'food for two weeks and had nofhing but cabbage and turnips! Mr fell with the small of his back against a sharp Btump, and either injured the sinews of his back or ;his right kidney. I his wes a month ago, and he does not get well, although he has laid up from work all the time. The four boys ara on the gumfields, about thirty miles from home, and tather is going there in a few days, but he is week from want of food, and I don't know ~ will be able to get thero t We are dyiiip of slow starvation, aud-I don't see any way out of it. If we could have got a cow before : winter, it would have been better, but I see ■ no ohance of that- God help us this winter: it will go hard with us," ..
