Addington Gaol.

Curistciiuroh, last night.

A petition has been Bigned by residents near Addington gaol protesting against its transformation into a criminal lunatic asylum. There is considerable agitation on the subject. The chief gaoler and matron have received notice that their services will be dispansed with on April 30th.

Not Keeping Boots. In the Supremo Court to-day a bankrupt John Henderson, underwent a "public examination. Mr Joynt formulated a charge against him under sub sections 3 and 4, section 171 of the Act for not keeping proper books and accounts, the bankrupt it was shown had not kept any for three years. Ho was sentenced to three months imprisonment.

Equitable Investment and Building {Society.

Wellington, last night.

At a meeting ot the Equitable Investment and Building Society the committee reported against taking advantage of the Mortgage Debentures Act, and the shareholders accepted the report. An Old Man Found IDeadHokitika, last night, An old man named J. O'Deo wbb found dead in a field near his residence at Robs to-day, He had been feeble for some time. An inquest will be held to-morrow.
