OTANUI MINING.
Oor reporter yesterday paid a visit to tho Otanui district, and was not only surpriagd at the progress made in the development of the Eureka G.M. Co's mines, but at the favourable indications whioh he saw of a future great suceesp for this hitherto neglected section of our goidfield. Going through the several workings of the Eureka Co., his attention was drawn by the manager to the number of lodes in \'m, tho greater number of which yield over loz to the ton,'and some of the richer yielding specimens which return loss to the lb. The richer yields are obtained at the lower levels, thus proving that as depth is reached, richer yields are to be found,' A great drawback to the prosperity of the mine is the boarbity of water for crushing power. This should be rendered by steam power, when tho results would not only benefit this company, but attract attention to this district as a rich gold producer,
