MINING MATTERS.
Caledonian.—Trial crushings from tho company's principal workings havo been treated at the. Herald battery during the last week. Tho manager has put through 13 loads general stuff from the Red Queen leader at No, 3 level, for the capital return of 22oza sdwts gold. Five loads from the winze on No. 1 reef, below No. 2 level, yielded soxs lOdwts gold. New North Star (To Papa Gully),— We are glad to learn that the proprietors of this claim, after exercising much patience and enterprise ,in prospecting their mine, have now in hand a reef a foot wide, in' which strong colours of the precious metal are visible. The low level has been extended about 700 feet, so that a return for outlay should now .be welcome.
Cambria.—Another haul of 1701ba rich specimens came to hand yesterday from the underhand stope, beneath the intermediate level, A good , show of . the precious metal remains in the faco. '
