A FEARLESS CHAPLAIN.
The following account of a gallant act performed by the Rev. Mr Collins, one of tlio chaplains with tho Souakim forco, is by tho'; pon of the correspondent of the Daily Chronicle :— 1 A body of the Indian contingent were firing at random. The bugles were repeatedly sounded for them to ceaso firing, but they did not lieed the command, and continued-firing'at perilous random, especially to the little square under Alston, As tho bugles were ineffective tho Ro\vMr. Collins volunteered to cross the bullet-swept ground: intorvohmg, and convey, tho orders to. como firing. Stepping forth, calm and collected "in demeanour, the chaplain walked, liia lifo in his lmnds, across to the Indians, to whom ho gave tho neccesary orders, and then returned as o'almly to tho little square which be had just left. - Ilis reception must have been somo compensation'for the risks he had ruu, The .men .struck with his heroism, raised^cheer (ifter cheer, and, sticking their holmets on thoir bayonets,frantically w;wed them .in. their enthusiasm" ' >.
