[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.J AUCKLAND, Wednesday. Cole's property in Queen-street was sold to-day for £335 per foot, Mr Haslett, chemist, was the purchaser. The s.s, Waihora has arrived from Sydney. A compromise has been effected between the Licensed Victuallers and Temperance party here in reference to the election of Licensing Committees, Five candidates have been agreed upon who will be returned unopposed for the City districts. HAWERA, Wednesday. The illicit distillation case was partly heard to-day. Anderson and Smith, the whiskey makers, were each convicted on one information. Bourke, brewers, who was charged with convoying the whiskey, was convicted on two informations. More cases come on for hearing to-morrow, and in the meantime no sentence was prononnced. GREYMOUTH, Wednesday, The Premier and Minister of Mines left this morning for the Maori Creek. They will pass the Kumara and go on to Hokitika and Ross, but will call at the Kumara on their return. They were escorted as far as the river by members of the local bodies, the County members accompanying them as far as Maori Creek. They will work their way North after inspecting this coast, taking a course along the eastern side of the ranges as far as Blenheim and Picton, where they will take steamer for Wellington. HOKITIKA, Wednesday. The Hon. the Premier and W. J. M. Larnach, Minister of Mines, arrived this evening from Greymouth, via Kumara, The Ministerial party was escorted from Kumara by the County Chairman (Mr Seddon, M.H.R.) and other gentlemen, They were met at Awahura river by Mr Bevan, M.H.R. for the district, and the members of the Borough Council of Hokitika, and the members of the County Council and Harbour Board. The party proceed to Ross tomorrow, via Lake Mahinapua, and return on Friday.

DUNEDIN, Wednesday. The Fire Brigade Demonstration Committee have appeinted a committee to answer Supt. Hughes' alleged false statement through the Press.

His Excellency the Governor opened the new Boys' High School to-day. There was an imposing ceremony. Amongst the speakers were the Rev. Mr Stuart, Mr Macandrew, M H.R,, and Dr. MacDonald, the Rector. In acknowledging the vote of thanks, His Excellency referred in feeling terms to the death of General Gordon, who had been a personal friend of his. A more pure, generous, noble-minded man than Gordon never lived. He was a pattern to the rising generation. His Excellency leaves for Christchurch to-morrow morning. The Hon. A. T. Stuart, Premier of New South Wales, arrived from Lake Wakatipu to-night, and leaves for the North on Saturday. Ten candidates,— five Blue Ribbon representatives and five moderates,— were nominated for the City Licensing Bench to-day.
