TARARU SCHOOL FUND ENTER. TAINMENT.

An entertainment was given_ at_ the Academy of Musio last evening in aid of the Tararu School Prize Fund, which secured, as it well deserved, a very fair attendance. It commenced with- the soreaming farce of ' Little Toddlekins,' the chief parts in which were sustained by Messrs Home and Wynne Gray, as Amanthiß and her papa respectively. Mr Turner made a capital 'Barnaby Babicombe,' and Mr Harrison a perfaofc Capt. Littlepop. Miss Whyto ably took the role of Babicombe's daughter, as did Miss Ohilcott that of Susan, the housemaid. It was a piece of good acting throughout, and created continued roars of laughter, After an interval, a character piece by Messrs Gray and Turner was given, entitled ' The bold Gendarmes ;«it deservedly secured an encore. Miss Ohilcott sang ' Little sister's gone to sleep' very sweetly. Another comic song by Mr Gray was followed by a oharming pianoforte duett by the Misses Wilson. Then oame a new 'local song' by Mr Wiseman, which was uproariously applauded, and the encore was responded to by the following versus :— There's lawyer 0., says lawyer 8., No longer shall remain J.P; ; And Dr K.—iß prayed by T.— Should give up being Coroner. Nor on the Bench allowed a seat To read their reasons, is a treatPhysic and law are at red heat, And daggers look when foes they meet; But my advice is, have a bout— . Just form a ring; and fight it out Tdl one of you doth cry and shoutLeave off! or you'll want the Coroner, The demon discord must have thrown Among the lot contention's bone; One day Old Kick will claim his own, Be he lawyer, J.P,, or Coroner, I have a grievance cries aloud, So I think I'll join the crowd, To be avenged, I have avowed, And loudly will I' hollar.' Mein leetel tog gomes oad von tay Shust as der sargint goes dafc Vay, He quickly spottit mein tog Tray: Is dis your tog, Schneider, he dit say, The ticket then I quickly bought, But yet he brought me up to CourtHe might have let me off, I thought* When I had got a collar, Eight shilling they did of me fleece, So let's get rid of the police, And then the summoning will cease I£ you kav't got a oollar. In Wellington they've had their fill Of petitions from Petitionville, And yet there is another still. Loud cries we all should utter— The impost that's been borne too long By many of this goodly throng, Called miners' right— Hit miners' Wong, And, in conclusion of my song, A Bk, why a miner should be made A license pay to earn Ma bread More than any other trade ? No wonder that they mutter Kahore, kakino,—'tis sot kaipai— Government should the goldfields buy, Not tax you when you work for kai And your children's bread and butter. Mr Turner Bong in capital style Eileen Alanriab,' and after another comic song by Mr Gray, Miss Hamlin rendered • Why do the roses fade' most admirably. This was followed by the mirth.-provoking lecture on the' Animated Skeleton,' by Dr Julius Crasar Brown. Mr E. A,K. Owen presided at the piano, and rendered the overtures to the several parts in his usual style. The whole entertainment •wont off well, and we trust will secure the object of the promoters. The proceedings oonoluded with a dance.
