MINING MATTERS.

Kubanui Hul,—Cleaning up and retorting for this oompany took place yesterday for the return of gold, About 520 tons of quartz were treated for this amount, whioh iB very satisfactory, There is no change to mention in the mine. The tributers, Le Manquais and party, start to put through a crushing this morning.

Dosr Pjbdbo.—The tributers, Carter and party orushed a trial parcel of about 5 tons quartz, at the Moanataiari mill, for the poor yield of 16 dwts retorted gold. Queen of Beauty.—The water in this company's mine has risen about 80 feet since the stoppage of the Waio-Karaka pumps, and is still rising at the rate of about 1 foot in every 24 hours. A parcel of sozs 3dwts gold for the company was banked yesterday, the result of a lot of tailings, The tributers, Wingate and party, crushed 6 tons of general dirt, and a parcel of picked stone at the company's battery, for the return of 37ozs 6dwts gold, and Moore and parly a parcel of picked stone for 32ozs Bdwts gold, Moanataiabi.—The retorted gold obtained on Saturday was yesterday melted into a bar weighing 1670z5, The manager's weekly report.is as follows:— "Point Russell section: The timbering of the rise is completed, the two passes lined, and ladders fixed in centre pass. All is now in working order, and the horse can take trucks direct from shoots. A fair start will be made in driving on Monday. The main tunnel has been extended 8 feet this week, only one shift being employed. The water pipes have been removed from the tunnel, and fixed in the rise. Greater pressure is thus secured, and we have 1,000 feet on hand for extension. A full party of men will now be employed to push the tunnel forward. The 218 feet level has been extended south from the shaft 170 feet, and is now in the strike of No. 9 reef. Driving is being continued west to interseot the reef. We shall now start sinking winze in the bottom of the 150feet level (already down 18 feet) for ventilation and facilities in stoping. After deepening this winze another 25 feet we expect to intersect the upper slide. The stopes in the 80 and 15D feet levels are without change to mention. During the past fortnight 236 tons of quartz have been crushed, yielding 171 ounces retorted gold.—Robert Oombb, February Ist."
