The Criminal Sessions opened to-day before His Honor Judge Gillies and the Grand Jury.

The Grand Jury threw out the bill against Dr Beale, charged with forcible entry into premises of Mr Hammond, Hamilton.

Breaking and entering. — William Brooke pleaded guilty to breaking and entering a shop and stealing therefrom. The sentence of the Court was that he be imprisoned with hard labour for the period of 18 months.

Labceny by a bailee, — Theophilus Alexander Cox was arraigned on this charge. He pleaded guilty. His Honor said prisoner was a young man to be brought up on such a charge. The sentence of the Court would be imprisonment for nine calendar months with hard labour.

Labobny. — Patrick Doyle was arraigned for the robbery of certain goods, the property of Mr Lavers. Prisoner pleaded guilty. There were several previous convictions against him. Sentenced to four years' penal servitude.

Faise Pretences. - John Thomas White, alias Dyson, was arraigned on a charge of obtaining money under certain false pretences from John Thomas Clarke, —Prisoner pleaded not guilty. — Mr Brookfield sta'ed the case, and called Joseph Howard Wi heford, John Thomas Clarke, Mr Woodward, a bank clerk, and Detective Grace, who gave evidence similar to that which has been already published.—Prisoner had nothing to gay in defence.—The jury found prisoner guilty. He pleaded guilty to a number of other convictious for various offences.

His Honor said prisoner had been found guilty by the jury on the clearest evidence. — Sentenced to two years' imprisonment with hard labour. Obtaining Money, Br False Pbhtenoes.—Bobert William Bellara was arraigned on the charge of obtaining money by certain false pretences. Prisoner pleaded guilty, but said he had no wish to defraud Mr Hill. He was suffering from drink at the time, and had a wife and two children to support. His Honour would give prisoner the benefit of tne good character he had hitherto borne, and would impose a term of imprisonment for nine months with hard larbour.

Labcent. — Benjamin Bennett was charged with the larceny of certain articles, the property of Benjamin Gittos and Sons.—Bennett pleaded guilty.— William Middleton was charged with aiding and abetting in the larceny. He pleaded not guilty, and the evidence'ridt being suicienfc to convict him, he was discharged from custody.—Bennett, having been previously convicted of larceny and burglary, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment with hard labour.
