MINING MATTERS.
Old Golden Calf.—The company's drire from the 360 ft. level towards No. 3 lode has been extended a distance of about 40ft. since the contractors commenced operations. The drive is being put through a good class of couutry, and is pretty dry, no water of any consequonce having yet been met with. Hebald Batteby. — Owing to the Kuranui and Prince Alfred batteries having resumed operations, thus utilising the water from the County supply, it only leaves sufficient to keep ten head of stampers employed at this battery, which are kept on dirt from the Alburnia mine. In the Oddfellows' section the contractors are putting in a cross-cut to cut a lode known as the "mullocky" leader, and have driven a distance of 135 feet, and on Monday night they met with a lode about 10 inches thick, but whether it is the one they are after or not is not yet known, as it does not underlie so much as the leader whiohthe winze is being sunk on. Tho winze is down about 50 feet, and is in an entirely different class of country to that in tho drivo.
