We quote the following paragraph, from a letter in a contemporary, from Mr Israel C, Jones, Superintendnnt of the House of Refuge 1 ou Randall's Island:—"While it may be true that other causes than 'cheap weekly story papers, police gazettes, and the like,' tend to bring boys to prison, we are justified by the I facts in saying these are almost the most powerI ful agencies in juvenile crime. The largo increase of juvenile delinquency in the last half ,i century makes the subject of great importance (' to society, and should induce earnest thought as | -to its cause and cure. In the fifty-first annual !■ report of the House of Refuge it was shown that this increase in the State during the period of 1 the last half century was 2,000 per cent, while that o£ the population was only 200 per cent; 1 a ratio of thirteen to one," i Champion Lazy.—The laziest and most 1 desultory young man we ever heard of was he : who, the other day, positively refused to complete his wenty-firstyear.
