Auckland, Thursday.

A' fire occurred this morning which desfroyod Botters' cabinetmaker's shop in High-street; loss £200; not insured. The native meeting at Hikurangi has been fixed for the 30th. Tawhiao is very ill and will not see a European doctor. . There will bo races at Waiwera on Saturday. A privato London telegram received from Mr Broomhall says that ho absolutely holds tho Government to their bargain, and ignores all outsiders. Ho asks:—"Will tho Government deal falsely, and throw aside English capital and tho finest'immigrants that ever sailed?" To-morrow is a close holiday. Tho Government, bank, and insurance offices will be closed till Tuesday.

Tho funeral of young Aitken took place to-day, and was largely attended by the leading citizens. An inmate of Mount Edon Gaol, undergoing a long sentence, has received news of a lcgacy of thirty thousand pounds left him.

The s.s. ' Hawea' saied South to-day with cargo and passengers.

At a meeting of tho Grammar School governors it was stated "that tho Trust rovenue.was three thousand seven hundred annually. They refused to increase the teachers' salaries.
