MEETING OF THE WASTE LANDS BOARD.

At the usual meeting of the Auckland >Wasty Lands Board,, held. on the following, amongst other businoss of minor importance, was transacted ; VOLUNTEER LAND BCBIP.. j-jj, ;A'letter was received from the UnderSecretary of Crown Lands at Wellington, informing the Board that Volunteer scrip could be exercised on all confiscated land under its control. THE TAIBUA BOAD. A letter was read from Mr Danrers, junr., on ' the stoppage of the' Tairua road. As a copy of Mr Jackson's complaint Lad been sent to Mr Dangers, it was decided that Mr Jackson should receive a transcript of Mr Danvers' communication. . (\ ■' THAMES GOLDJIELD LANDS. A letter was received from the Secretary of the (Thames County 'Counoil; forwarding an application from a Mr ;William Barnett, the prayer of which was that land within the Thames goldfield might be proclaimed open for settlement. —The Seoretary was desired to inform Mr Barnett that the laud to which he a\luded was not yet in the hands of the Board, but that as soon as it was his re* qaost would receive full consideration. : , THE MIBANDA GOLDFIELD. James McGregor made application for the leasei for 21 years, of 650 acres on the Earito blook, at the Miranda, in virtue of his having been the discoverer of a seam of : coal in it. The application had been made to the Government, and, by the Hon.l r . Whitaker, referred to the Board for consideration.—Tho Seoretary was instructed!to reply to the effect that the Board could: not touch the land, until it had passed through tho Native Lands Court, and that therefore the.considera:, tion. of the letter would bo postponed indefinitely.., „ KATIKATI, . , ! A letter was read from George Yesey Siewart, reporting that he. had been' unable to obtain 10,000 acres of land adjoining Katikati. He had, however, gone over the country with Captain Turner, andipioke'd out 8,000 acres, which he was willing to aooept in lieu of the 10,000 acres originally promised, provided that the Board would allow of a pro rata reduction being mado in the terms ho had offered. A report from the surveyor, Captain Turner, was also read. Some little discussion took place in regard to Mr Stewart's letter. It was agreed that the Board should refuse to grant him certain portions of land whioh he had included in the 8,000 acres. < It was eventually proposed to offer him lots 62, 63, 95, 96, and 98, in the parish of Takowai, forfeited lands at Katikati, and unappropriated lots on the same block, the remainder of tho 8,000 acres to bo made up of Crown lands adjoining Katikati. LAND BEGULATIONS. The following letter from the Crown Lands Office, Wellington, was road: — " General Government Crown Lands Office, Wellington, 6th March, 1877.— Sir,-The Hon. the Minister for Immigration desires to invito tho consideration of tho Waste Lands Board to a suggestion made by the Agont-Generfll, to the effect that it seoms desirable that some information relating to the land systems prevailing in tho Boveral districts of the colony should be circulated in Groat .Britain for tlio use of intending immigrants. In tho present state of the land laws of tho colony it seems desirable that this should be done by the Waste Lands Boards of tho several districts in whoso hands the sale and letting of Crown lands is placed, and such board could supply suoh facts and statements as might seem likely to bo most useful for tho purpose intended. Should tho Board approve and adopt this suggestion, I have to request that you will be so good a? to forward to this offico, for the approval of the Govornor, any statement upon the subject • which 1 may bo drawn up by the Board of your
