The water supply in very short here now, the water being turned off a couplf of times during the day, and generally all through the night, and no water, there being nothing to supply the city but what is stored in the reservoir, the city may in faot be said to be supplied by a thin dribbling creek. The new dam, however, is in rapid course of completion, and when completed will throw back a regular lake of water. The dam is well situated in a sharp bend of a gully, and the " bud" foot of the embankment consists of a concrete wall, six feet through. The embankment will be made of clay and gravel in layers, the whole being of enormous thickness. One fault in it, however, is that the pipes will lead into the centre of the dam, instead of to one side. < To compensate in somo respects for this, there will be a centre wall of concrete in the earthwork.
