RECEPTION OF HOANI NAHE. M.H.R., BY HIS CONSTITUENTS.

Me Hoani Nahe, M.H.it. for the Western Maori District, arrived at the Thamea on Tuesday evening, in company with Mr Howe, M.H.R., but he did not go home to his residence at Parawai that night. .That would have been contrary to Maori custom, for during the five months that Hoani JMe had been absent at his Parliamentary duties many changes had taken place. Death had visited the settlement, and Bapana Maunganoa and other members of the tribe had been removed by kia hand. Before, therefore, any rejoicings eould take placebefore, in fact, Hoani Nahe could return to his home—those had to bo mourned for. Accordingly, on Wednesday he ! proceeded to the residence of W. H. I Taipari, and there met about 100 men, ' women, and children of the tribe ' assembled. Tho customary mourning ' ceremonies were then carried out, after ' which the proceedings assumed a more 1 agreeable and satisfactory character. ' Taipari, with the utmost hospitality, had ' a banquet prepared, of which all partook ' liberally, after which Hoani gave a con- ( cise, clear, and intelligent review of the ' proceedings of Parliament, explaining 1 what he had himself done, and why he ' did it, and what he understood to have j been dono by the European members of J the Government.
