POLICE COURT.-Yesterday.
(Deloro 11, Goldsmith, Esq.,' J.J?.,| and E. W PCCKSY, Esa. J.P.) Riding ok A Footpath,—Geo. Atkins was charged with having committed a breach of the borough by-laws by riding a horse on the footpath: in' Queen-street., on the 2nd instant. Ho admitted the / offence. Defendant said that he was compelled; to go on the footbridge across the Karaka creek, because there was no crossing, and had he plunged in he would have gone down three or four feet.—: Sergeant Mulville said that the defendant had been remonstrated with not only for crossing this bridge but for riding on the footpath in Eyre-street by Mrliawden, the foreman of works—Thomas Hawdeu was examined, and corroborated this stateraont, and the defendant wns fined 5s and costs, or in default 24 hours' imprisonment.
