LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL,
Wellington, Tuesday.
In tho Legislative Council, the Hon. Speaker atated that in a speech he had made at Balclutha he had been misunderstood. He desired to say he had no idea of offonding tho members of tho Council when ho made tho speech. The Hon Dr Pollen expressed satisfaction at hraring the Speaker say so. The Hon Major Bichmond was appointed Chairman of Committoes. ' A bill amending the Friendly Societies Act was read a first time. The 'Wellington .Rivers Act was read a first time.
The Council adjourned till Thursday.
