LICENSING COURT.—Yesterday.

The adjourned meeting of the annual'and quarterly. Licensing Court for the districts of Thames and Hauralti,. was held at the Court-house, Shortland, yesterday. Present—Captain Fraser, K.M. (Chairman), and Commissioners Brown, Workman, and Souter. DISTRICT OF THAMES. • New Applications fob old Houses.— Frederick Burdett Butler applied for' a license for the Nil Desperandum Hotel, Grahamstown. Mr Bullen said that the present licensee, Mr Quint, had withdrawn his application for a renewal of his license. There was no objection to the present application, and the application was granted.-Thomas Clarke's application for a license for the Occidental Hotel, Grahamstown, was withdrawn. —John Began applied for a license for the Ballarat Hotel, Shortland. The police-report on the condition of the house was unfavourable. Mr Macdonald, for. the applicant, said that if there were any other oases to be adjourned he would ask to have ai adjournment in this case; but if not he would not trouble the Court to meet again to consider this one application. Subsequently, there being no other adjournment, the application was withdrawn.—John Townsend's application for a license for the Warwick Arms Hotel, Shortland, was granted.—Francis Joseph Wardell applied for a license for the Governor Bowen Hotel. Mr Macdonald stated that Mr Anthony's application for a renewal of his license was withdrawn, but he would ask to have tho name of the present occupier (George Symington) I substituted for that of Mr Wardell. _ It transpired that Mr Symington's application for a license for the Grahamstown Hotel had been granted at the first sitting of the Court, and the Bench declined to accede to the request. Tho license was granted to Mr Wardell. Applications fob Renewals.—ln the following instances applications for renewal of licenses were granted :-JamoH • Clarke, City of Glasgow, Tararu Boad j Thomas Grtham, Una, Shortland; William Hawk, Glasgow Arms, Grahamstown; Samuel Stephenson, Marine Family Hotel, Grahamstown; Margaret Thomas, Kuranui, Tararu Boad; John Wilson, Saracen's Head, Shortland.—The applications made in the following instances wore withdrawn Arthur Anthony, Governor Bowen, Grahamstown; Albert Martell, Old House at Home, Grahamstown; John O'Halloran, Metropolitan, Grahamstown; Charles F. Quint, Nil Desperandum, Grahamstown j John Wilson, Imperial Crown, Tararu. HMJEAKI DISTRICT. Benewai.—Samuel Barrett's application for a renewal of his license for the Grand Junction Hotel, Moanataiari Creek, was granted.
