Under the heading of "blasphemous advertising" the TaranaUHerald says:—"There is a paper published at thelhames called Enoch, which is devoted to what it calls the spirit of prophecy. It is evidently intended for a religious journal, and bristles with quotations from the Bible; in fact it is carried to such an extent, that it really becomes blasphemous when used in connection with the advertisements. We give a few .as a specimen. "'I um the bread of Life.', Thames Steam Biscuit Factory: Messrs Mennie & Day, bakers and confectioners, Queen-street, Grahamstown."—" 'Owe no man anything, but love one another.' A pair of trousers for a guinea,"—" 1 The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof.'. F. A. Smith,' wholesale and retail storekeeper, Pollen-street.'' —Your feet shod with the preparation of the gosp:l of peace,' B, Scott, bootmaker, Pollen-street, Grahamstown. I '—Thomas Wayth Gudgeon & Co., auctioneer?, head their advertisement,." Distress of nations with perplexity, l ' A Mr Woods offers a cottage belonging to a Mr -Henry Clayton for sale, and prefixes it with •t(ie quotation "Sell that ye have, and give almsbut w'g,very much doubt if Mr Clayton's idea in disposing of his property takes such a charitable form, "Take the helmet of salvation," is the quotation that heads a hatter's advertisement, and;" Another book was opened, which is the Book of Life"' for a stationer and . But perhaps the most comical advertisement is that of an undertaker's widow, who. intends carrying on her husband's business,, which is " 'He (Christ) will swallow up death in victory/. ; Funeral establishment, Pollen-, street; Shortland. "M, Ardcrn lakes the opportunity of thanking friends and customers for ymt favours, and assures them that nothing shiill be wanting on her part to merit a continuance of the'same." There is something very yiritmfoM this."
