MINING MATTERS.
Queen of the Ma?.—The sinking of the Queen of the May shaft is still progressing. The manager reported to the directors yesterday that it was now down three feet below the wator level of the adjoining mines, and there is not the slightest indication of wator apparent so tar, and if there is no change of country he anticipates that he will be able to carry it down the full depth corresponding with the main level of the City of London mine without the water in any way interfering with the operations. Of course this is hypothetical, for should the country change or should any quarlz voin bo intersected, the water wouldat onco flow in. The class of Country which ho is now penetrating is, however, impervious to water. It is a 3olid dense rock without scams or heads.
Buck Ancm.—Wingate and party, tributers of the Black Angel mine, had a small crushing of .9 tons completed for them at the Moanataiari battery, for a payable return of 9ozs gold. AiBUKNU.—At present operations in this mine are limited to the pushing forward of the battery level through the J Rose and Shamrock ground into Dixon's No. 1, which is now a portion of the company's ground, and it will bo somo time yet before this section will be opened to the extent required for the produce of crushing stuff on a large scale.' Further, thoreforo, than that the. contractors arc pushing forward (heir' drive with all possible despatch, thero is nothing new to report from tho company's workings. There are two tribute parties working, and both will be roady to start crushing next week. ' - Golden Calf.—Gold is still showing steadily in the lower workings of this company's mine, and tho manager is accumulating crushing .stuff of apparently good quality, upon which operations will be started next week, probably, at tho Tramway battery. CiLwoHAN,—Crushing for the Caledonian will start to-day at the Prince Alfred battery, Thero is a large parcel on band, and the stuff is apparently of good payable quality.
