. - December 14,1875. Since writing my last .we have Lad very 'strange.weather for. the season of the year, and although we have not had much' rain, the. main river (Waihou). still keeps very high, and the flood is abating very, slowly I hear that the natives have caught a great lot oi; eels.-- ...'..' . You will perceive that the business in the Warden's' Court was 'got through very quickly yesterday, most ot the cases being "white eggs "or friendly plaints. Messrs Hewitt, and Stewart have arrived in company with Mr W. 0. Wright' I hear that a portion of the Karangahake machinery will be up this week. McCpnachie and party have got the contraot for sinking the winze in the Karangahake G.M.O.'s ground, and will start work at once. ':• •
S canlan and party have got the contact for clearing and forming a section of the Mackayto.wn-Waitekauri track.; In terms of the apepifications they are bound to make it passable for sledge traffic in six. weeks, and will baye to complete the job in eight weeks. ..Many here think % that, the price $140) is - ridiculously low, but I suppose the men know their' own business best.. The Constabulary men are getting on with their section as well as the: weather'will, permit. ; *.l see that tenders are called for the middle section, and it is expected, that ,the three sections,, will be completed almost simultaneously. :A'. shareholder in the All Nations, named John Brothwell, broke Ms right Jpg.Jash-Tiiglit__H.fi-.was going-down-the. hill beyond Noble's':' in the dark, and his foot slipped on the sideling. Fortunately some of his mates were with him, and. attended to him at once. He was brought down to Paeroa this morning to await the' arrival 1 of the ' Captain. Newall very kindly sent a detachment of the Armed .Constabulary to assist in carrying the unfortunate '■'-■'man on a stretcher/;and;. Mr T, W, Allen,, of the.
Eobin Hood Hotel, paeroa, attended to his^ani^a.arrival. ■■':■' . i
I have just heard'that : there;is a rush on to peg out ground in the vicinity of the Owharoa block, near, Waitekauri. The prospectors— Holes, Turnbull, d mold, M ackay, Sogers,. and Barrett— ■had intended to keep matters quiet until the Mining Districts Act should be brought into force, but one of them took out a fresh miner's right yesterday, and they .have consequently been rushed. The first four were the' original prospector's of Karangabake, and the others have been,,prospering in -this district for several years.. I hear that they, have got something good, and T.tjiipk' .they deserve their success, as theyhave been working steadily in that locality for some considerable time. _
