POLICE COURT, OHINEMURI. Wednesday.
(Beforo W, FiUSER/Esq, li.M.) Labcen Y.—Kereopa Weka was oharged with, that ho did, on or about tho 13th of March, 1875, unlawfully 'and feloniously steal, take, and carry away a silver watch and gold Albert chain with gold nugget attached, the property .of Thomas Kirk.— Mr Henry D. Johnson was sworn in as interpreter.—Prisonor said 'that ho did not steal them. Ho fouud them in tho river. Ho pleaded not guilty.—After hearing tho evidence of tho prosecutor and of Messrs Aus.lin, Snodgrass,, and Sub-Inspector Newall, his Worship said that ho could not see that there had been any felonious intent on tho part of the prisoner. Thero was, of courso, no doubt that tho articles belonged to tho prosecucutor, and ho would thorefort) order them to bo restored to him, and that tho prisoner shall refund tho money paid by Mr Snodgrass for tho nugget. Tho prisoner was then discharged, and his Worship cautioned him and all other natives against retaining possession of apything which they might pick up in future.
