CORRESPONDENCE.
THE WAIOTAHI DISTRICT. To the Editor ol the Thames Advertiser, Sir,—ln a local paragraph of your this day's issue, on the township supply waterworks, you state that at the last moment a member of the Waiotahi Board telegraphed to'his Honor not to give up the water supply to the, Council, as, arrangements had not been I'madie to hand ovw to the Waiotahi''Board any part of the profit that may be made; you also then go on to state that that dislriet had £200 expende'don a water supply for its special benefit. Both, of which statements are incorrect. In the first place, the telegram was sent by the Board, and bears the signatures of three members. Next, as to the water supply, up the Waiotahi Creek, the borough has an equal benefit, for the Waiotahi district has five public standpipes and the borough four public staudpipes. From this supply no water rates are leviable.. Now, relative to the township supply, handed over to tho borough. If you refer to the report; adopted by the Council,- and.publicly, published, you will find it stated in that report that- the profits of the township supply were to be divided each year pro ratio ■ between the Coun-. : eil, tlio Waiotahi, Eauwaeranga, and Parawai Boards in proportion to. the rates raised in each year, and theso profits now are about £800 a-year, and each year will increase. As the works wero •laid down out of goldfields. revenue, tho Waiotahi district, by far the largest pprtion of the goldfield, have a right to their share of tho profit. Perliaps you do not consider .it a great breach of faith'for a public body to publish a -statement that the profits should bo divided between four districts, pd_ then, without any notice, get'them attempted to bo- handed over to only-three v out of the four. The more roads are $hade . out- ( side the borovigh, so that quartz can be got down cheaply to the machine tho more prosperity to the residents in tho borough, whereas tho roads do not benefit the miners in any like manner who have to pay for their making and maintenance. —I am, &c, . A Membee of the Waiotahi . June 2. Highway Boabd.
