Yesterday was tlie day appointed for the hearing of the applications for license of several pieces of ground at Tairua, The Warden sat in the Court-house, where thero wore a considerable number of persons present interested in the applications and objections. Am License.—This was an application for a license of IS. acres 2 roods 33 perches by Richard Kennan,— Mr Brassey appeared for the applicant, and Mr Tyler for the owners of the Bisk claim, who were objectors, The objection lodged was signed by Mr Preece, and set forth that the regulations regarding the pegging out were not complied with by tho applicant, and that the applica'ion included the Bisk claim.— E, Ooates, E. Mangan, P. Oosiipan, J. Bergin,. J. Maker, P. Bropky, registered owners of tho North Star claim, objected to the granting of the Ajax license because it-included part of tho North Star claim, which had been marked out prior, and had been occupied siuce.—E. Cameron objected, alleging that applicant did not'mark sat as required by law previous to making his application, that he did not mark out at 6 a.m. on the 10th April as alleged in his application that applicant did not mark out previous to making tho application, any claim with peg marked X, that the plan lodged with application was a fictitious plan, and not the plan of a claim previously marked out by him, and that E. Cameron was in lawful occupation of a considerable poriiou of tho ground.— Williams, Pisk, J. Hare, G. Grey, J. W. Waller, W. B. Jackson, E. Honiss, J. M. Beech, 8. Preece, H, Gidley, G. Graham, sen., objected on the same ground as the previous objectors, and on the .ground that they had marked off some of tho ground previously.—The Warden said that as to the objections on behalf of tho shareholders of the ftisk and North Star claims, ho would order tbat plans must bo prepared to be produced on the day of hearing.—Mr Brassey suggested that the same day should be fixed for these cases as had been fixed for the hearing of objections to the granting of the Tairua license. —Mr Tyler said tho hearing of that case would involve a great number of wit-nesses,-and would probably occupy four or five days. With regard to the objection made by natives in a letter, ho thought he could treat tbeso as being made only against the prospectors' licetiso.—Mr Brassey .said he thought the objectors against the granting of the Tairua license would withdraw.—Mr Tyler said that those for whom he appeared would go on.—The Warden said Mr Hcskctk wa3 to be dowu in', these cases, and thoy would try to accommodate him, hut they could not have all the people in Tairua sacrificed for Mr llcslceth. —After some further discussion, Monday, tho 21st instant, was fixed for hearing the objections. Puketui License.—The applicant in this case (the application being for 30 acres) was Mr D. G. MaoDonnell, for whom Mr Tyler appeared.—Mr Tyler said he understood that there was something wrong in tho plan that had been lodged, which had been taken from some uncertain point, or wrong point, and that the Warden had expressed his wish to haveanow plan/ He (Mr Tyler) believed a now plan was bring prepared,—The Warden said the plan lodged in the first instance was a paper plan. If tho applicants had paid the surveyor to have this survey done they had not been well treated,»»Mr 1). G. MacDonnell said that. . he attended at the Warden's office, and tho Warden being absont,.Mr McLaren

said that it might be arranged without the necessity of a new survey, and asked liira to wait fill the Wardou returned. When it was known that a now survey must be made, Mr Bayldon was sent immediately, but owing to the extremely stormy weather, he had not been able to get the plan finished.—The Warden said that the plan lodged by the prospectors was .wrong, and that being so, the paper plans were all wrong. It was fortunate that it • had been found out.-*Mr MacDonnell said he could prove that the surveyor had gono on tlio ground, nud had engaged three men to assist him in cutting the lines. The western line could not be cut, a3 the. weather was so bad. — The Warden said if he took the interpretation sought to be put upon the word "may" by Mr Tyler, ho must refuse the application now. The plan first lodged showed that the pegs had been put in on a perfect paralellogram, which jyas an impossibility in a country like that without a survey. He would not adjourn tho case, but (he applicants would bo informed on Eriday next whether the application had been granted or refused.

Stewart License.—The applicant (for 10 acres 3 roods 35 perches) was David Stewart, for whom Mr T. Horsbrugh appeared. E. Goates, E. Mangan, P, Oostigau, J, Bergin, J, Maher, and P. Brophy, registered owners of the North Star, objected to the Stewart liccnso because it embraced and included part of the site of -tho North Star claim, which bad been marked out prior, and had been occupied since.— John Dyer objected, on behalf of his party and himself, on the ground that they had _ pegged him in) and that he pegged prior to thein, and was registered lor six. men's _ ground, known as the Middle Bto claim.—Mr Tyler appeared for tho objectors.—Some conversation took placc respecting the day which should be fixed for the hearing, when Mr Tyler said ho did not know when .he might be able to communicate with Dyer. One of tho public hero suggested that, as they were claimholders, no doubt they would be found on their claim at 'i'airua. —The Warden said that would probably be the last place to go to look for them.— The hearing was fixed for Thursday, the 24th instant.
