MEETINGS OF SHAREHOLDERS.

I Taibua G.m:o.—TKo'direotera of the TairM G.M.C. (Limited) held a meeting at the Pacific Hotel on Saturday evening, for the purpose of passing accounts and considering ..the,question of; machinery. &c. The routine busih'ess'beirigj transacted, the mine'manager submitted the following report:-" Gentlemen,-! hare the honour to submifcthe following report I took charge of your ground on' the 26th ult. Many impediments have prevented me from making much headway.' Tracks had to be cut and huts built, and all provisions carried'some distance. Tho tools' consisting of picks, hammers, blasting implements, ropes, buckets, blacksmiths' bellows and tools, carpenters' tools, and many other necessaries have a'so had to. bo packed on our backs, Prospecting has been confined to the shaft, from which Mr Necves obtained about 20ozs of gold prior to the opening of tho Tairua goldfield. Tho shaft has been squared down 10 feet, thus bringing it down to the depth at which Mr Neeve discontinued sinking on tho reef: from which 451bs of stone were crushed, and subsequently 6001bs, giving respectively sozs ldwt and 13ozs melted, gold. From the westward side a s'rong body of quartz made so that the cap of a largo reef is "to liand-measuring at tho present time four feet of crushing stuff. The shaft is now down 15 feet, and tho lode looks richer than ever, the gold being of a heavier character. ■ About, half an houri:bef6releaving Tairua yesterday I cut slill further westward through what seeme'd ; 'to be the hmging-wall, and discovered a strong body of quartz, but failed to get the hanging-wall, bat managed to;break outapieco of stono, which'l submit to you' for inspection, also' a small, pbial of-gold, the result of the> loose from eight half-dishes of dirt, but as much more remained in the quartz. A tunnel has been started from the face of the hill, which will give 50 feet of backs, It is now in six feet; 26 feet more remains to be driven before the reef will be in hand. A very hard granite bar has to be got through, but from tho heads in the country, I expect a change daily. . Two water-rights have been taken up for your company, and a four-stamper batterypurchased and.refitted ready to bo shipped to Tairua. I have agreed with Mr Wm. B. : Jackson to send down two tons of quartz via Tairua, to be delivered in Grahamstown at £8 per ton,—l have, &c, John B. Beeohe, Mine _ Manager." s- The manager was authorised to push ahead the erection of the four-stamper battery as speedily, as possible; and'after .the consideration of other matters affecting the interest of the company, the meeting adjourned.

Victoby Claim.—Bird and party,; sharehoßlers in the Victory claim (ten men's .ground pegged in Keid's lease, Tairua), also held a meeting on Saturday night at the Pacific Hotel. Tho whole of the shareholders were present. It was decided that a plaint should be laid and law proceedings commenced with Ueid's party. Mr -Hesk'etb, solicitor, was to hare beeu in attendance, but was prevented from, coming down to tho meoting in consequence of having to, proceed to Coromandel.

Bisk Ciatx—Messrs Samuol Preecc and party, tbo claimants to the ten men's ground north of the Prospectors' claim, which is included in the area applied for by theAjax company, also.held a meeting on Saturday night, at.the Pacific.Hotel. After some consideration, it was decided to take steps to defend their claim in tho impending lawsuit.
