(FBOlt 008 OWN COBBEBPOKDENT.) _0 Auckund, Wednesday, 5.23 p.m. A blue shark, eleven feet long, was caught in the harbour to-day by a waterman named Kean.—Mr Eees, in a vigorous reply to the attack made on him by the Cross, states, as one cause of animosity of that journal towards him, that he is counsel for Cecilia Allen, acquitted on the charge of arson in the libel action being brought against that journal.—The 'Prince JBupert' left Kussell for the Thames yesterday.—The City West polling occupied entire attention to-day. It resulted as follows:—Mr Dignan, 665; Mr Dargaville, 386; majority for Dignan, 179. —Sir George Grey will visit the Thames Goldfield next week, and will also proceed to Ohinemuri—The General Government are to advance £15,000 for expenditure on goldfields. — Some interested persons here are trying hard to send the traffic to Tairua by way of the Fast Coast, but those well informed declare that the best track can be found via Sirikiri.—lt is said that tho enquiry ordered by the General Government respecting the miners' rights swindle is likely to prove a farce, as Major Keddell has no authority to administer oaths, or commit for contempt in case of refusal to answer.—The election of Mr Dignan was almost regarded as a certainty. Mr Dargaville made a few injudicious statements, and destroyed his chance of election.—A small paper is about to be started at Wangarei, and another at Opotiki.
