Before daylight it blew a hurricane for nearly four hours.. The sea in the harbour was very high, and rain squalls ;came on at intervals. The cutters "Triad/ 'Helen. McGregor,' and ' Seabird' were,, wrecked to the westward of the wharfy/" The shipping here was heavily bumpingagainst the piles, and vessels and the wharf sustained great injury. The barques 'Moneynick/,'Harriet ArmitageZ/Jfost Lothian,'jnd' Thames,' and the schooner ' Mera,' were all'damaged. The' Moneys nick' was most injured. Her bulwarks, -' were battered,, the stanchions sprung, ~ the ship generally'strained.'"The 'Mera' was nearly as bad..
