WANGANUI v. TARANAKI,

A representative golf match wm played between Wanganui and Taranaki players on the Waiwakaiho links today. Owing to the wet weather the four-ball matches which were to have been played in the afternoon were abandoned. Details of the play are as follow (Taranaki players mentioned first in each instance): — Gudgeon lost to Saunders, 4 up and 3. Robertshaw lost to Harold, 7 up and 6. Johns lost to Goss, 4 up and 3. Bayley and Anderson, all square. Mackay beat Jack, 4 up and 3. Wade beat Harden, 5 up and 4. E. Quinn beat Verry, 5 up and 3. Pulley beat Cave, 3 up and 2. Simpson beat Bates, 6 up and 5. The season was officially closed by the New Plymouth Club on Saturday afternoon. Mixed foursomes were played, the match being won by Mrs. Butcher and Hutchings. KIRKWOOD TO RETURN. J. H. Kirkwood, the open champion of Australasia, will pay another visit to New Plymouth early in November.
