DENBIGH ROAD.

FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. Oct. 25.—A fancy-dress ball in aid of the Hall Board’s Fund was held in tho public hall on Wednesday night. Though tho hall was not very crowded, this was in favour of the dancers present, who enjoyed a thoroughly good time. Some very good costumes were to be seen. T*ho weather has been beautifully flue lately and the growth is coming on fast, whilst the milk carts roll, along with daily increasing loads. Our factory has just paid out a bonus of'Jd. on last year’s butter, and is paying out 2s per pound on butter-fat. This sounds well. Townspeople seem to think that tho farmer is the only man making money. They do not take jnto consideration that wages in all walks have gone up to three times what they were, whilst milk is the only source of income to the farmer. I am quite sure that those just started have a great struggle in front of them with land the price it is, from £513 upwards, and cattle from £2O up for good milking stuff; horseshoeing 13s 6d, as against about 5s before the war; milk carts £4O, instead of £lB or £2O; fencing wire £3 15s, ns against 10s the hundred ; milk cans £5. as against 30s; help on the farm £3 per week instead of 30s, etc. Farmers who were beginning to get on will no doubt find that, instead of milking ono teat for themselves and three for the money-lenders, the order of things may change and they may soon find themselves milking the three for themselves and their families. The local school closed till next Tuesday, Monday being a holiday.
