MIMI-URENUI NOTES.

from our own correspondent. Oct. 22 The annual inspection of the Mimi School took place on Thursday last. The Taranaki Education Board’s school inspector (Mr. Dempsey, assisted by Mr. M‘Kinny) conducted the examination. As far as can he gathered the children acquitted themselves creditably, but the pass results will not bo known until the inspector forwards his customary report. A pleasant feature in connection with the recent school examination was the fact of three cliildren who have recently left the district for 801 l Block, but missed the examination at that school, coming out on Wednesday evening by ’bus to be present at the Mimi School on Thursday. It is to be hoped that they will be rewarded by a successful pass. It has been decided to celebrate the addition to the new school by an afternoon tea on Monday afternoon (Labour Day), when there is expected to be a bingo attendance of parents and children. Several visitors from outside have been invited to be present, and no doubt a most-successful gathering will eventuate. The Urenui Cricket Club have entered a senior team for the North Taranaki Association’s Thursday competition, and a junior eleven for that held on Saturdays. No doubt both teams will give a good account of themselves, and I understand a fair amount of practice is being got in. An amateur Christy Minstrel performance is to take place in Urenui shortly, under the directorship of Mr. G. H. Pope, which will be a sufficient 'guarantee for the excellence of the performance. There is something about this class of entertainment which always appeals to the public, and the topical songs and local gags are eagerly looked •forward to.

At a meeting of directors of the Wai-toi-toi Dajry Company, on Wednesday last, a tender from Mr; L. Jones was accepted for a further supply of firewood. The coal shortage is felt here as severely as elsewhere, and it is rather difficult to keep up a decent head of steam with half-green mixed firewood. Dry rata is not so bad, but that is about as hard to procure as an overdraft at the hank.

Mr. J. F. Phillips (chairman of directors of the local factory) proceeded to Hawera on Thursday to attend a meeting of the Taranaki daily employers.

The milk supply to the factory is still increasing and the total has now reached 28 clieese per day, last season’s record by six, Mrs. MTlae, who has disposed of w farm, is having a clearing sale on Thursday next October 28 at the roadstead. There should he- keen competition for the dairy cows, which are in milk, and the usual farm sundries should find plenty of bidders. The sale will be conducted by Newton King, Ltd.
