BATHER ABSURD STRIKE

ROME, Oct. 15. i Sicilian peasants continue to occupy great tracts of land, including vineyards, olive-yards and orange groves. ‘ There was a general strike for two hours vestorday throughout Italy as a protest against the reaction and as a mark of sympathy' with .Bolshevik Russia. All trains were stopped from three to five o’clock, during which period railway officials wore requested to assume a serious and dignified attitude. Tbo two hours’ strike was generally peaceful, but there woro several fatal encounters with troops. Extremists at Bologna invaded a gaol. A Socialist and a policeman were killed, and thirteen wounded in Milan by a bomb whicli was flung amidst a laxly of troops, who fired on the demonstrators, killing one. A mob attacked carabineers at Foggia. A light ensued, in which eleven were killed and sixty wounded, including five carabineers, two fatally.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
